Mourilyan Harbour and Abbot Point surveys for monitoring the endemic coastal biota and for detection of invading species.

Mourilyan Harbour and Abbot Point were surveyed for endemic biota and introduced species in June and July 1998. The survey focussed on habitats in the vicinity of the berth at each port that were likely to be colonised by introduced species. The survey methodology broadly followed the sampling protocols outlined in Hewitt and Martin (1996) with some difications to allow for the specific environmental characteristics of the ports studied. |

This report details results from the November 2006 seagrass monitoring survey for the Port
of Mourilyan conducted as part of the annual long term monitoring program as well as results
from the post tropical Cyclone Larry survey conducted in May 2006. The monitoring program
was developed following a baseline survey in December 1993 and examines selected
representative seagrass meadows in Mourilyan Harbour. Total area of each monitoring
meadow, species composition and seagrass density (above ground biomass) were
measured for comparison with previous surveys. |

Seagrass monitoring in the port during December 2003 revealed some significant changes in the intertidal monitoring meadows compared with the previous year. It is unlikely that the changes observed to seagrass habitat in this survey were attributable to port activities. |
