ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

PCQ has an Environmental Management System (EMS) which is integrated into normal work practices. The system is compliant with the International Standard AS/ ISO 14001 2004. The EMS is externally certified to be compliant with the standard.

The EMS documents the Corporation's Environment Policy, procedures, practices and legislative requirements to ensure sound environmental management across all of its ports. Responsibilities and accountabilities for environmental management within the Corporation are also documented. The EMS also provides details of how environmental performance is to be measured against internal and external standards.

LEGAL COMPLIANCE

PCQ's Environmental Group provides advice and training on environmental legal compliance to all staff. The Group seeks expert legal advice as required. As an additional resource to staff, summaries of relevant environmental legislation have been documented in PCQ's Environmental Management Manual for easy access.

To ensure all new projects comply fully with environmental legislative requirements, projects are reviewed in the planning stages and the environmental and planning approvals or environmental licences required are determined and documented in the project-specific environmental management plan.

ENVIRONMENTAL PLANNING

PCQ believes that its Environment Program should not be a stand-alone, short-term program, but integrated with all aspects of its management system as a core component of its long-term strategic planning process. To this end, the following activities have been initiated:
  • Development of a port-specific Environmental Management Plan (EMP) for each port.
  • Strategic Planning
