PCQ LAND OFFER MOVES BOWEN FORESHORE REDEVELOPMENT ONE STEP CLOSER

A major redevelopment of the Bowen foreshore has moved one step closer with Ports Corporation of Queensland (PCQ) officially handing over their waterfront property to Whitsunday Regional Council earlier this week.

PCQ Chairman, Leonie Taylor and PCQ Chief Executive Officer, Brad Fish met with Whitsunday Regional Council Mayor, Mike Brunker in Bowen to officially hand over the forefront land.

Mr Fish commented that the move by PCQ would help change the face of Bowen forever and will have major benefits for the town in the future.

“PCQ and Council had been in negotiations for some time with a key part of the deal being for an alternate site and building to be made available for the PCQ”, he said.

Council’s foreshore plans will provide the catalyst for redevelopment and consolidation of the town’s identity and growing recreation needs.

The Bowen wharf still forms an integral part of the operations of a working port providing berths for tugs that service shipping for the Abbot Point Coal Terminal. Priority will be maintained for this vital economic use.

In agreeing to relocate the PCQ Bowen office from the waterside area to an existing council property in George Street, Council has made arrangements to upgrade the existing facilities which will include an office building and workshop.

PCQ’s office is now officially up and running at the new location.
