COOKING UP A STORM FOR CHARITY
It’s all hands on deck at the Abbot Point Coal Terminal of late, as Lions Charity Queen entrant Alex Stace builds her campaign to raise up to $20k for the local Bowen community.
The charity queen entrant, sponsored by Ports Corporation of Queensland (PCQ) has come up with some novel ideas of how to raise money, with her latest venture aiming to win over her colleagues’ hearts and purse strings, through their stomachs. She and her hard working support team have been cooking up a storm each week and delivering fresh steak burgers to her colleagues on site at the port.
With the Abbot Point Coal Terminal expansion project to increase capacity to 50 million tonnes per annum underway, she has had exactly the right audience to target her campaign at.
“We have an increasing workforce on site, now that X50 is underway, so I’ve been working tirelessly to improve the steak burgers week on week. So far, the feedback has been great and my colleagues are lining up for more, so it has been a fun and effective way to raise money for the local community,” said Alex.
Hot on the heels of a successful Pirate Trivia Night last weekend, Alex’s next venture involves the organisation of a Auction Dinner and Dance , which is taking place on Saturday 13 September at the Queens Beach Hotel Function Room. As well as enjoying a fine meal and drinks, guests will have the opportunity to bid at auction for interesting and valuable items including signed and framed Football Jerseys, Whitsunday accommodation packages, local Tradespersons and many more. Tickets, priced at $75 per person are available from B Exposed in the town centre and the Queens Beach Motor Hotel. There is limited availability so locals should book their tickets as soon as possible.
PCQ’s Chief Executive Officer Brad Fish said PCQ was delighted to be sponsoring the Lions Charity Queen event.
“Our communities program aims to improve the wellbeing of local people and we are delighted to be supporting Alex in her goal to raise record amount of money to be injected back into the Bowen community.”
