PCQ CALLING FOR FEEDBACK

Ports Corporation of Queensland (PCQ) is conducting several focus group sessions in October to hear the views and opinions of the Bowen community on the Port of Abbot Point expansion project.

The on-site workforce at Abbot Point is now delivering the next phase of the expansion project which will see the terminal’s capacity increase to 25 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) by June next year. Alongside this project, the next phase to increase capacity to 50 mtpa has also begun and is due to be completed by 2011.

Following this expansion, PCQ is planning to further expand to increase capacity to 110mtpa and the community consultation program for this phase, will officially be launched in November.

Prior to launching a community consultation program, PCQ would like to hear the views of local residents on a variety of issues, ranging from attitudes and experiences with PCQ, views on the expansions projects at the port and opinions on future consultation methods.

PCQ’s Chief Executive Officer, Brad Fish commented that feedback is very important to PCQ, and that the focus will be on maintaining an open dialogue with members of the local community.

“It is essential that PCQ takes a proactive stance on engaging with members of the community to better understand any issues or concerns,” Mr Fish said.

As a result of the focus groups, the feedback will be extremely useful moving forward and will ensure PCQ’s commitment to working together with the community to make the most of developments at Abbot Point.

PCQ is also working with people from the local community to give them guidance on the skills and knowledge they require to gain employment at Abbot Point through partners that are carrying out the development works.

The focus groups will be held on 15 and 16 October and all local residents are invited to attend. Numbers are limited so please register your interest by contacting a PCQ representative at 3224 4346 or 3224 8863.
