BOWEN YOUTHS TEST THE WATER
The children of Bowen State School were this week treated to an educational session in water quality testing, by leading ports authority, Ports Corporation of Queensland (PCQ). PCQ carried out the programme as part of its commitment to educating young people across Queensland on how to protect the marine environment.
The group of year seven children were provided the latest high-tech scientific instruments by PCQ to carry out water testing at Bowen Harbour and track the results against last year, to ensure that the quality of the water is maintained.
PCQ’s Chief Executive Officer, Brad Fish commented that PCQ takes a proactive stance on environmental issues and is committed to educating young people on the importance of protecting the local environment.
“PCQ is delighted to be working with these young people to build a better future for the local community. We will continue our work with the local community to ensure that a high quality water and marine habitat is maintained,” he said.
Ian Haworth from Bowen State School said that all of the students in attendance had a wonderful time and enjoyed both the presentation at the school and the practical component at the Bowen Harbour, with PCQ’s Environmental Coordinator, Nicola Rae.
“We look forward to continuing to work with PCQ in our water monitoring initiatives in 2008 and into the future,” Mr Haworth said.
