PCQ PROVIDES ABBOT POINT STAGE 2 CONTACT POINT
Ports Corporation of Queensland (PCQ) is offering the services of a community and business liaison contact to assist local residents and businesses with any enquiries regarding the Stage 2 Expansion of the Abbot Point Coal Terminal.
PCQ Chief Executive Officer, Brad Fish, said PCQ was keen to ensure Bowen residents received the maximum benefit from the $116 million project and were kept abreast of the project’s progress. Site work is expected to start in late April.
PCQ employee, Sean Craig, will fill the role of community and business liaison contact and will be based in Bowen several days a week over the next few months.
“He will be available to meet with Bowen residents and business owners to discuss opportunities to become involved in the project or just discuss the scope of activity planned as part of the expansion.
“This is a significant regional project and we want to ensure locals have a central contact point to gain information, as well as feed information back to us,” Mr Fish said.
“The expansion of the coal terminal will provide a major boost to employment in the region. Local Bowen businesses are also likely to significantly benefit from sub-contracting opportunities on site and from the influx of workers to the area.”
Approval of the Stage 2 Expansion was given by the State Government in March.
The terminal has an existing capacity of 15 million tonnes per annum (mtpa), with the Stage 2 Expansion increasing capacity to 21mtpa. The expansion will create greater stacking and reclaiming capacity, additional stockpiles and faster conveyor systems.
